THE LOCAL

A Walk On Water (aka AWOW), or at least the idea of it, was really born long before the summer of 2012. Bits and pieces of it have been brewing in the founders’ hearts and minds for decades. Founder Pat Notaro III spent many a day catching waves at First Point with his father Pat Jr.—a renowned local waterman and philanthropist—etching in Pat the healing power of the ocean and the value of sharing surf therapy with loved ones. Meanwhile, Steven was rising to the top of skate and surf competitions before launching into his successful career as a photographer and director, all the while learning what it took to build something meaningful while finding balance.  The nucleus of AWOW was born on the beach of First Point when Pat and Steven—along with AWOW VP Sean Swentek and board member Jason Logan — came together while volunteering for pioneering nonprofit Surfers Healing.
